Noordhoek Beach

Just below Chapman’s Peak Drive is an almost untouched, flawless Noordhoek Beach.

A neat boardwalk leads you from the car park over the initial dunes to the beginning of the pale vastness.

Wide, white expanse of sea sand is perfect for kite flying, sun-tanning, horse riding, children and dog walking.

In the winter season, with bracing chilly wind, Noordhoek Beach has a wild feeling.

One comes away from a brisk walk, knowing that you have breathed in fresh ozone and the cobwebs are gone!

Do not be deceived by the inviting crashing waves – it can be freezing to swim in, being the Atlantic Ocean with cold Benguela waters. Currents are also unpredictable.

However, die-hard surfers can be seen catching waves, all wearing wetsuits (duh)

Facing west a picnic or sundowners are a hit. Head to the massive granite boulders on the north corner, where you can climb up and view the length of the beach, and watch a day close – never to be had again.

Horse riding, even for the amateur, can be arranged from Sleepy Hollow in Noordhoek or The Equestrian Centre at Imhoff’s Gift.
